2004 U.S. Pizza Team Trials

 

Paul Sr. and Paul Jr. attended the 2004 New York Pizza Show in New York City, NY on November 2-3 to compete in the U.S. Pizza Team trials.  Yes, the United States has an official "U.S. Pizza Team" that competes in Italy every year to win the title for the Fastest Pizza Maker, Largest Dough Stretch, Freestyle Pizza Tosser, Best Traditional Pizza, and Best Gourmet Pizza! 

In the Fastest Pizza Maker trial, contestants were required to stretch FIVE dough balls to fill a 12-inch screen in record time.  Paul Sr. made 5 perfect shells in an impressive time of 1 minute-16 seconds!  The first-place winner was just under 1 minute.
 

 

In the Largest Dough Stretch competition, contestants were given a 17-ounce doughball in which they were given 5 minutes to stretch to maximum diameter with no holes larger than a quarter.  Paul Sr. qualified with a 17.18" shell.
Paul Jr. qualified with an impressive 23+" shell (his exact results were lost by the judging staff)
